Take That’s Gary Barlow reveals he hasn’t washed his hair in 14 YEARS

Take That star Gary Barlow has revealed he has washed his hair for the first time in 14 years. The singer, who is currently fronting BBC talent show Let It Shine along with fellow judge Dannii Minogue, has sent social media into something of a meltdown by saying that he hasn’t shampooed his hair since 2003.

Gary, 46, took to Twitter to announce to fans that it was a big day for his hair, as he had just washed it for the first time in more than a decade, adding the hashtag #nojoke.

One fan immediately asked if she could smell his hair, with Gary joking back “Sure thing”. He did however threaten to ban one fan, who suggested that his hair was a wig. During his early days in Take That, Gary was known for bleaching his hair, and said that mistreating his locks at the time had led to not having enough.

Stopped washing

However, his hair has clearly grown back, even if it had not been cleaned up until this weekend. It is not clear why Gary stopped washing his hair, but it could be that he was trying to keep it in better condition following years of abuse and over processing while he was a bleach blonde.

According to research, if you can manage to cope with greasy hair for six weeks, hair does start to clean itself after that. Normally, when you wash your hair with shampoo, it takes the oil out of the hair. So, the theory is that your hair then ends up producing more oil to make up for the washing process, which leads to greasy hair.

If you don’t wash your hair at all, then hair balances itself, producing just the right of oil so it does not end up being greasy, even without a regular wash.
